As the Chief Investment Officer, Chun Lai is responsible for managing the Foundation’s $6.4 Billion endowment.

Chun joined the Rockefeller Foundation in 1996 as an Investment Associate. Over his long career at the Foundation, he held roles across multiple asset classes and functional areas, including overseeing research and asset allocation, managing the Real Assets and Fixed Income portfolios, and building and managing the Hedge Funds portfolio. Before assuming the CIO role in 2019, he was the Deputy CIO for 9 years, overseeing portfolio management, asset allocation, and investment research. He started his investment career at the State of Connecticut Retirement and Trust Funds from 1992 to 1996. Prior to coming to the United States, he was an aeronautics engineer in China.

Chun has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and an MBA in Finance from the University of Connecticut. He serves on the Investment Committee of the William Penn Foundation. He also holds the CFA (chartered financial analyst) designation from the CFA Institute.

Scott Wilson

CIO - Washington University Investment Management Company

Scott L. Wilson is the Chief Investment Officer for Washington University in St. Louis. In this role, he evaluates global investment themes and strategies within equities, fixed income, real assets and alternative investments. He is responsible for developing and implementing the strategic asset allocation for the University’s endowment, evaluating current and potential investment opportunities, and communicating with the broader Washington University community. Prior to joining Washington University in St. Louis in 2017, Scott served as Chief Investment Officer and Director of Investments for Grinnell College. Previously, Scott was Head of Rates Option Trading for Barclays Capital Japan and held various trading and quant roles at Bank of America Securities in Tokyo, Chicago, and London focused on interest rate, equity, and currency derivatives. Scott also previously worked as an equity research analyst for Merrill Lynch & Credit Suisse First Boston. Scott earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Mathematics, with honors from Grinnell College and also attended the graduate program in Financial Mathematics at the University of Chicago. Scott is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Thomas Lenehan

Managing Director – Euclidean Capital

Tom Lenehan is a Managing Director at Euclidean Capital, a single family office located in New York City. Previously, he served as the second Chief Investment Officer of The Wallace Foundation, responsible for managing all aspects of the Foundation’s investment portfolio. Prior to joining Wallace, Lenehan had served as the deputy chief investment officer of The Rockefeller University for nearly a decade, helping to manage all aspects of the university’s $2.4 billion endowment. Before that, he worked in various investment roles as a limited partner and a general partner at Commonfund Capital in Wilton, Conn., Vista Equity Partners in San Francisco, and Marsh & McLennan Capital, Inc. (aka, Stone Point Capital) in Greenwich, Conn. Lenehan began his career as a financial analyst at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in the investment banking division in both New York and London.

Lenehan has long been committed to working with educational and other nonprofit institutions. He currently serves on the investment committee of the Stony Brook Foundation. He previously chaired the investment committee for the Peterson Institute for International Economics and served on the board of trustees and investment committee of the Wenner-Gren Foundation. In 2019 and 2020, Lenehan was selected as one of the Top 30 University Endowment Chief Investment Officers by Trusted Insight, a news and international networking site for institutional investors.

He earned a B.S. in business administration from Georgetown University, where he graduated summa cum laude and valedictorian, and an M.B.A. from Stanford University, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar. Lenehan originally hails from northeast Ohio and is a long-suffering Cleveland sports fan.

Leena Bhutta

Leena Bhutta serves as the Chief Investment Officer of Doris Duke Foundation, an organization committed to building a more creative, equitable and sustainable future. Leena leads the investment team managing the $2 billion endowment for the foundation and serves on the management committee as well, contributing to the strategic direction of the broader organization.

Leena started her career in technology investment banking at Goldman Sachs. She transitioned to the buyside as an investor in global equity markets at Joho Capital, an Asia-focused hedge fund managing $5 billion in AUM. After several years as a direct investor, she pivoted to investing for mission-oriented organizations by setting up an investment program for Hollyhock Foundation, a private foundation set up by the founders of Joho Capital.

Originally from Pakistan, Leena earned her BA from Wellesley College and her MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Rick Slocum
Advisory Board Member
Managing Director and CIO - Harvard Management Company, Inc.

Rick Slocum joined Harvard Management Company (HMC) as managing director and chief investment officer in March 2017. Alongside the CEO, they have restructured the endowment’s investment operations to form a mostly outsourced investment model. They also repositioned the portfolio by increasing allocation to both hedge funds and venture capital, while working with the University to identify the endowment’s optimal risk level.

Previously, Mr. Slocum served as chief investment officer of The Johnson Company, a large single-family office based in New York City. Prior to that, Mr. Slocum was responsible for private equity and portfolio management at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Mr. Slocum has also worked as a senior director at the Office of Investments at the University of Pennsylvania, as a private placement specialist at two different banks in New York City and began his career as a credit analyst at Chemical Bank.

Mr. Slocum holds a BS and MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He currently serves on the Rockefeller Foundation’s Investment Committee.
